NYC Fashion vs. "Southern" Fashion: Point of View

Awwwww my lovely readers,

We are so sorry! We dropped the ball...I admit. lol. However, we've returned with new goals to keep posting as often as possible.

I've been traveling, working out, and out of electricity with the ICE storm in SOUTH CAROLINA (who would have thought). Yes, our weather has been so crazy. At any rate, I was able to travel to the wonderful NYC beauty in January!!! (I can't tell you guys why yet, but I will soon!) ;)

One of my lovely friends decided to take me shopping while I was there and I went to TONS of stores, but found nothing of interest (that day... hehehe). My goal was a pair of heels or a "tribal" pattern skirt, which I've been dying to find, but I realized the shoes/heels were SOOOO different.

My friend and I had an interesting conversation about the huge different point of views of fashion. Interestingly, women and men in the SOUTH see fashion as the "Runway" styles, whereas women and men up NORTH see fashion with the mentality that it has to be "Functional."

For example, you don't see a lot of women up north wearing pumps, platforms, stilettos, etc. during the day, but in the south fashionistas are not seen without heels. lol. Women go to the grocery store in heels. LOL. (I'm guilty.)

On the other hand, northern women wear small (I mean VERY tiny) heels or extremely chunky heels. (examples below) It's very RARE to see a woman in pumps on the streets of NYC.  (Looking back at these picture, there are a handful of pumps, but I PROMISE there aren't very many. lol)

My friend (modeling the first shoe lol) did make a great point that NYC women tend to WALK ALOT and they need to be able to RUN from a creeper in the subway (LOL), whereas southern women can drive their cars everywhere. IT MADE SENSE!

I thought it was so funny that we "southern" women dress up like we are about to hit the catwalk, and women in the middle of "fashion city" don't. They still have very cute outfits, but it's definitely functional over fashion for 90% of them. Trust me...I wore pumps my first day there, and I got MANY looks... So ladies, enjoy the dressing as if you are about to hit the catwalk, because ladies up north can't as much.

BTW, when I did see women in heels...um...that's pretty much ALL they were wearing & it was at night!!! (Yes, even in winter some young women have no modesty. LOL) I can't. smh.

At any rate, I didn't find what I was looking for, but I did find this beautiful dress from Zara, and tons of fun little outfits for my nephew. (How does that work? LOL...it does when you love him to death!)  I've never known myself to shop so little, but honestly...shopping in NYC is overwhelming. Sooooo much clothes, so many people, and so many styles. I needed to pause at every store, and observe. no joke.

I will definitely show you guys the dress on our Instagram account (@ddspurebliss) later on. Here are some more pics from NYC! Enjoy and thanks for reading!

(4 floors of H&M! O.o)

Have a blessed day.
Love,
D

Thanksgiving: CHECK ...now, Christmas!

Hello my dear readers, I'm so sorry I've been so ghost on all of you! Huge thanks to D2 for keeping you guys updated. :D I have been crazy trying to travel for Thanksgiving, Christmas shopping for a family that my job adopted, and trying to continue planning my upcoming trip to NY...last but not least work. :/ hehehe. At any rate, I know everyone is getting ready to spend quality time with their families over the holidays as well as giving wonderful gifts from the heart. I'm more of a giver than a receiver. I love to think my heart was constructed under the blue print of the heart of Jesus...always giving out of love. I am not saying Christmas should be about gifts, but it's always nice when I can make someone else smile. Definitely take this time to appreciate your loved ones and spend the time that you've missed with them throughout the year. ...AND if you have some EXTRA time on your hands, feel free to reach out to those in real need. We are too blessed ...

Fast Forward to July 2018...

Hello ladies, Has it really been two years since I've blogged??? I really dropped the ball this time. In my defense, I was off social media for one of those years. You know... the whole "social-media cleanse." Which by the way would have been a total success if I hadn't become a youth leader and needed to promote events. LOL. All for the greater good tho. Wow, I don't even know where to start, so I'll start with I'M SORRY and I've missed blogging! So much has happened since my move to the Sunshine State. Here's a quick overview: 1. I was jobless for two months. 2. By God's grace, I landed a job in Flood Insurance. 3. Found a church home, became a member, and a youth leader and Sunday School teacher(obviously not right away) 5. Found the greatest and most loving church family...I wouldn't replace them for the world 4. Quit my job in Flood Insurance (long story), and started working at an Elementary School as an ESOL Paraprofess...

"Curly" Straws beautify! :)

Happy Thursday loves, I'm really exhausted today, but I thought one thing would cheer me up...BLOGGING! :) So thanks to the fabulous Divas in my life who research just as much as I do about fashion, here is another trick for your hair. Curls! These are really tight curls, but there are many other tutorials to show you how to loosen them. You will need the following items to accomplish this look: STRAWS, Bobby pins ,  & maybe some hairspray. Yes, you read correctly...Straws! (^.^) No curling iron, no flat iron, no heat...all natural. hehehehe. My older sister actually used this trick on her daughters hair, which is long a beautiful, and it was adorable! Cheap way to make curls...I think it's a WINNER! They really do come out beautiful. Personally, I haven't tried it yet...probably because I'll need a WHOLE BUNCH of straws for my hair, but I think it's worth trying. I'll let you know how mine turn out & feel free to let us know your results ...
